# Browsing by Group

Spend Market organizes every market under sectors and groups. Browse top-down or search straight to a name.

### Sector → Group → Merchant

* **Sector.** The broadest grouping, and rigidly defined. Food & Beverage. Retail & Commerce. Travel & Hospitality. Technology & Software. Transportation & Mobility. Financial Services & Wagering. Entertainment & Recreation. Health & Wellness.
* **Group.** A flexible set of merchants you can trade as one. A group can sit inside a single sector or span several to capture a macro spending behavior. e.g. "Fast Food," "Premium Coffee" (Blue Bottle, Stumptown, Philz), "AI Tooling" (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Cursor), "Big Box," "Essentials" (grocery, gas, pharmacy).
* **Merchant.** The leaf. A single brand.

The taxonomy defines which markets exist and how they relate. A Versus between two merchants in the same group is a clean competitive read. A Target on a group that spans sectors is a macro position. A Ranking across a group is a competitive set. Pick the granularity that matches your view.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.spend.market/markets/browsing-by-group.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
