# Referrals

Invite friends, and when they trade $5, you both get $5 promo credit.

### How it works

* **Share your code.** Every account gets a unique 8-character invite code (e.g., ABC123XY). Find it on the Earn tab or your Invites page. Share the code directly, or send your invite link: `spend.market/invite/ABC123XY`.
* **Your friend signs up.** When they use your link or enter your code at signup, the code applies automatically and the referral shows as pending in your account.
* **Your friend trades $5 or more.** Once they deposit and trade a total of $5 or more in USDC, the referral qualifies. Deposits are cumulative, there's no time limit, and a connected bank or an onchain deposit both count toward it.
* **You both earn.** When the referral qualifies, you each receive $5 in promo credit.

### The details

* Promo earned from referrals is capped at $500 per person, lifetime, across all referrals. After the cap, you can keep referring, but no additional promo is awarded.
* Only deposits made after your friend uses your code count toward the $5.
* A friend is locked to the first referrer whose code they use; a second code won't apply.
* You can't refer yourself. Attempting to do so will result in a permanent ban.
* Codes don't expire, can be shared with unlimited people, and each new account that uses your code counts as one referral.
* Codes apply only during signup, never retroactively to an existing account.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.spend.market/getting-started/referrals.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
